Frequently Asked Questions.
Facials FAQs
What products do you use?
I use only what I consider to be the very best two brands in skincare— Dermaquest & Neal’s Yard Remedies. These luxurious and pioneering brand offers products tailored to all skin types. After testing numerous skincare lines over the years, I’ve found they both consistently deliver the best results for my clients.
What are the benefits of a facial?
Modern, busy lifestyles can leave your skin looking tired and in need of extra care. A professional facial not only rejuvenates your skin, making it look healthier and more vibrant, but also helps you feel relaxed and refreshed.
Explore more about the benefits of facials during your appointment.
Do I need to prepare for my facial?
There’s no special preparation required. However, removing any makeup beforehand can save time during your appointment.
What type of Facial do you offer?
If you’re unsure which is right for you, I’m happy to guide you when you book your appointment. I believe in tailoring each treatment to suit the unique needs of my clients for the best possible results. You may select a Facial Consultation via the booking system to ensure you’re fully happy with your booking.
I have allergies—can I still have a facial?
Yes! During your first appointment, I’ll ask about any allergies or intolerances to ensure your treatment is completely safe and suitable for your skin.
Will my treatment be tailored to my skin type?
Absolutely. Every facial I provide is customised to address your unique skin concerns and type. During an initial consultation, I’ll discuss your skin’s needs and any specific issues you may be experiencing. This allows me to select the most suitable products and techniques for your treatment.
How can I maintain healthy skin after my facial?
Post-facial care depends on your skin type, but here are some general tips:
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
• Avoid harsh chemicals that may dry out or irritate your skin.
• Follow any personalised advice I provide during your appointment to maintain your skin’s health and glow.
I’ll be happy to discuss a tailored skincare routine to help you achieve long-lasting results.
Are facial extractions painful?
As a professionally trained therapist, I specialise in extraction treatments to address acne and clogged pores. Most clients report that the extractions are relatively painless. However, if it’s your first facial or you haven’t had one in a long time, you may experience some mild discomfort. If you have any concerns during the treatment, feel free to communicate with us—we’re here to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
How often should I go for a facial?
For best results, we recommend scheduling regular facials every 3–4 weeks to maintain clear and glowing skin. If you have acne-prone or oily skin with frequent breakouts, facials every 2–3 weeks can be more effective in treating clogged pores. Since everyone’s skin is different, our therapists will assess your skin and provide personalised advice on the ideal frequency for your treatments.
Can I see immediate results after one session?
Yes, many clients notice visible improvements after just one session, such as:
• Reduced acne and blackheads
• Clearer, more radiant skin
• Fewer clogged pores
• Reduced pimples
However, maintaining these results requires a proper skincare routine and regular facials. For long-term, acne-free, and glowing skin, we recommend a monthly facial to keep your pores clean and your skin healthy.
Can my child (under 16 years old) have a facial?
Yes, we provide facial treatments for young teens aged 13–16 with parental consent. During puberty, teens often experience increased pimples, acne, and clogged pores, which can be effectively treated with facial extractions. Before proceeding, we’ll assess your child’s skin and recommend the most suitable treatment. Results may vary depending on individual skin conditions.
Can I apply makeup right after a facial?
We recommend avoiding makeup for at least day after a facial, especially an extraction treatment, as your skin is healing. Makeup can clog freshly cleaned pores with oils and impurities. Your skin may also appear slightly red after a facial, depending on its sensitivity, so it’s best to avoid scheduling a treatment right before important events.
Is it normal to have redness after a facial?
Yes, some redness is normal, especially after an extraction treatment. During the process, the therapist may need to gently squeeze your skin to clear clogged pores, which can cause temporary redness that typically fades within 1–2 days. In some cases, purging may occur as your pores self-clean, but rest assured, our treatments are designed to minimise redness as much as possible.
Massage FAQs
How do I know which type of massage is right for me?
If you’re unsure which massage suits you best, don’t worry—I can help! Send an email info@evaatthebarn.co.uk and we can discuss the various options. we can discuss your needs and tailor a treatment to meet them.
The type of massage depends on what you’re looking for: some people prefer a light, deeply relaxing experience, while others with tension (like in the shoulders) may benefit more from a therapeutic massage.
What types of massage treatments do you offer?
I offer a range of massage treatments to suit different needs, including:
Swedish Massage
Deep Tissue Massage
Hot Stone Massage
Pre-blended Aromatherapy Massage
Will my massage treatment hurt?
My role as a massage therapist is to help you feel better—not to cause discomfort. I’ll always check with you before and during the session to ensure the pressure is comfortable. If you have tension or knots in areas like your shoulders, firm pressure may be necessary, but I’ll make this clear beforehand and adjust to your comfort level. You’re always in control.
Is it medically safe for me to have a massage?
Before your first session, you’ll complete a short medical questionnaire so I can assess whether a massage is safe for you. It’s important to share any underlying health issues or concerns not covered in the questionnaire. In some cases, it may not be medically safe to proceed, so feel free to discuss this with me when booking your appointment.
How much privacy will I have?
Your privacy and comfort are a priority. After filling out the medical questionnaire and having a quick chat, you’ll be left alone in the treatment room to prepare. You can undress to your comfort level (typically to your underwear) and lie on the massage table under warm towels. Once your treatment is finished, I’ll leave the room so you can get dressed in complete privacy and take your time.
What should I avoid after a massage?
A massage releases toxins from your body, so there are a few things to avoid afterward:
• Strenuous exercise: Rest for about 24 hours to let your body recover.
• Alcohol: Avoid drinking as it can hinder toxin removal.
• Driving long distances: You may feel very relaxed or tired after your massage.
To prevent post-massage headaches, drink plenty of water to flush out toxins.
What are the benefits of having a massage?
A massage offers numerous benefits, including:
• Improved skin texture: Stimulates collagen production and removes dead skin cells.
• Reduced puffiness: Lymphatic drainage techniques help de-puff the face and under-eye area.
• Enhanced product absorption: Promotes deeper penetration of skincare products.
• Relaxation and stress relief: Eases tension in muscles and encourages overall relaxation.
What techniques are used in a beauty massage?
Some common techniques include:
• Effleurage: Gentle strokes to warm up the skin and promote relaxation.
• Petrissage: Kneading motions to boost circulation and muscle stimulation.
• Lymphatic drainage: Moves lymphatic fluid to reduce puffiness.
• Tapping and percussion: Light tapping to improve blood flow and skin tone.
• Pressure point massage: Targets specific points to alleviate tension, headaches, or sinus congestion.
What products are used in a beauty massage?
We use high-quality products to enhance the treatment, such as:
• Facial oils: Neal’s Yard Organics
• Currently the use of Nut free oil
Who should get a beauty massage?
A beauty massage is ideal for:
• People wanting to improve skin texture and appearance.
• Those experiencing facial tension or puffiness.
• Individuals looking to enhance the results of their skincare routine.
Are there any downsides to a beauty massage?
While beauty massages are generally safe, there are a few considerations:
• Skin irritation: Aggressive techniques may not suit sensitive skin.
• Aggravated conditions: Avoid treatments if you have active acne or other skin issues—consult with your therapist first.
What should I ask my beauty massage therapist before a treatment?
Before your session, it’s helpful to ask about:
• Their experience and expertise in facial massage.
• The products they use and whether they can customize treatments for your skin type.
• Specific concerns or areas you’d like to focus on during the massage
Waxing FAQs
How long does my hair need to be?
For the best waxing results, your hair should be about 1/4 inch long (approximately the length of a grain of rice), which typically requires 4-6 weeks of growth. If your hair is shorter, the wax may not grip effectively, resulting in wasted time and money. Hang tough and let it grow!
If your hair is longer than 1/4 inch, you might experience some discomfort when the wax is applied. To minimise this, trim your hair to the ideal length before your appointment.
How long will the results last?
If waxing is new to you, you’ll notice slower regrowth for the first couple of weeks. Over time, your hair may grow back more quickly as it adjusts.
With regular waxing, your hair will become finer, softer, and sparser, though this isn’t permanent. These improvements will last as long as you maintain a consistent waxing routine and avoid shaving between appointments.
How often should I wax?
We recommend waxing every 4-6 weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows. Everyone is different! Most of our clients prefer to schedule appointments every 4 weeks to keep that smooth and clean feeling. Over time, you may find that you can go longer between waxes.
What wax do you use?
We use only the best: Lycon Precision Wax, one of the highest-quality waxes on the market. Depending on the area, we use either hot wax or strip wax. Both are suitable for all hair types and minimize hair breakage by ensuring complete removal from the root. Lycon wax also reduces ingrown hairs, eliminates after-sting, and offers a gentle, comfortable waxing experience.
How can I make my waxing treatment more comfortable?
Shaved hair is tougher and more resistant than waxed hair, which can make waxing more painful. Step away from the razor!
To reduce discomfort:
• Trim your hair to about 1/4 inch or the length of a grain of rice before your appointment. Longer hair can make the process more painful.
• Remember, the first wax is always the most uncomfortable—but it gets much easier after that!
Can I get waxed during pregnancy?
Yes, you can! However, hormonal changes and increased blood flow (particularly in the pubic area) may make your skin more sensitive to pain.
• If you’ve been waxing regularly, it’s fine to continue during pregnancy.
• If you’re new to waxing, wait until after your 12-week check-up and consult your midwife or GP for approval before scheduling an appointment.
Waxing after a C-section:
As long as your scar is fully healed and there are no scabs, it’s safe to wax. This typically takes 6-8 weeks post-surgery.
When should I exfoliate?
Gently exfoliate 1-2 days before your waxing appointment, but avoid harsh scrubs on the day of your treatment. Exfoliating helps the wax grip the hair, not the skin, but over-exfoliating can make your skin overly sensitive.
I feel really self-conscious…
Don’t let body confidence issues stop you from getting waxed! Feeling self-conscious is completely normal, especially if it’s your first time. However, with over 20 years of experience, Eva has seen it all—stretch marks, cellulite, scars, and mummy tummies are perfectly NORMAL. Having four children herself may put you at ease!
If you’re getting a Hollywood or Brazilian wax, yes, you’ll need to strip off from the waist down. But remember: this is our job, and we’re focused on one thing—getting you as smooth as possible with minimal discomfort.
Is a Hollywood wax embarrassing?
It’s normal to feel nervous or embarrassed about your first Hollywood wax. But as professional waxing specialists, we do this every single day and have for years. Rest assured, you’re in experienced, non-judgmental hands.
What aftercare advice should I follow?
Avoid these for 24 hours after waxing:
• Extreme heat (hot baths, showers, saunas, steam rooms, or Jacuzzis)
• Public swimming pools
• Sunbathing or sunbeds
• Gym workouts
• Perfume or deodorant on the waxed area
• Tight clothing
• Fake tan
• Makeup on the waxed area
What to do after 48 hours:
• Start gently dry brushing the waxed area a couple of times a week to help prevent ingrown hairs.
• Keep the skin moisturised for optimal smoothness.
What to watch out for:
It’s normal for your skin to appear pink or slightly raised for several hours after waxing. If spots or rashes persist for more than a week or become infected, consult your doctor & Eva At The Barn.
Brows FAQ
How long does the HD Brows treatment take?
The HD Brows treatment typically lasts around 45 minutes. However, we recommend allowing up to an hour for the appointment to ensure a comfortable and relaxed experience.
In a rush? As HD Brows Master Stylists, we also offer an express treatment, which takes up to 30 minutes for those short on time.
How long do HD Brows last?
The results of the HD Brows treatment usually last around 4-6 weeks. However, this can vary depending on your natural hair growth cycle and how well your hair holds the tint.
After your initial treatments, your brow stylist will provide personalised recommendations for how often you should return to maintain your desired look.
I have sparse brows. Can I still have the treatment?
Absolutely! As expert brow stylists, we’ll work with you to create a tailored regrowth program aimed at achieving the perfect brow shape over time.
In the meantime, we’ll show you how to enhance your brows with makeup to ‘fake it till you make it.’ We also recommend using products like the HD Brows Lash & Brow Booster or Brow Maximiser to encourage and improve hair growth. For best results, apply these products twice daily.
How many treatments do I need to achieve my desired brows?
This varies depending on the amount of hair you have to start with. While some clients may see their desired results after just one treatment, others may require anywhere from 2 to 20 sessions to achieve their perfect shape.
During your first consultation, your brow stylist will assess your brows and recommend how many treatments may be needed to reach your goals.
Can I still have HD Brows if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
We completely understand that expectant and new mothers want to feel their best! You can still enjoy the HD Brows treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding, but please note that we’ll need to skip the tinting process.
Effective from May 2nd, 2017, HD Brows’ tinting policy states that clients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under the age of 16 cannot have tinting as part of the treatment.
Instead, we’ll use products like the HD Brows Colourfix to give your brows a freshly tinted appearance. Your stylist will also show you how to use these products at home to maintain the look without any risks.
Please note that Brow Lamination cannot be performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For now, we recommend either the HD Brows treatment (minus the tint) or our HD Express service.
HD Brow Lamination
Brow Lamination includes tinting, waxing, threading, and tweezing. The key difference from a standard HD Brows treatment is that we finish with a nourishing oil, which is left on overnight for deep conditioning, rather than makeup.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes, a patch test is required if:
• It’s your first time receiving an HD Brows treatment.
• More than six months have passed since your last appointment.
• There have been any changes in your health or medication (including COVID-19 or the COVID vaccine, which are considered medical changes).
The patch test must be booked online at least 48 hours before your appointment and within two weeks of your scheduled brow service to minimise the risk of any reactions.
